Suggestions PLEASE

This is for any nurse that has been fired or made an error. I lost my job recently and found out after I lost my job that I have PTSD/Depression/Anxiety/Insomnia. (My nephew stabbed my brother 9 times in my home 2 hours after burying my mom, I had four teeth knocked out when I intervened. My brother and I both survived this attack).I took time off to address my issues. It was a traumatic experience. I am now ready to go back to work, but I am having difficulty getting a job. If you have had any adverse issues as a nurse, how do you go about getting someone to give you a chance to prove yourself. After a bone breaks when it heals it becomes stronger, I was like the broken bone I healed and I feel stronger now. The problem is getting someone to give me a chance. I am also in school for my RN I am done in August.

Let me first start by saying how sorry i am for the tragity you went and will, unfortunately have with you forever. With that said, my next comment is to embrace it as much as you safely can. No doubt you wish it never happened, but it did. Like it or not, you are changed.... some ways good and so,e very challenging.

My challenge for you is to grab on tight the unimaginable compaddion you must have for the human race for even wanting to be a nurse now. You must need so much, yet you want to devote your life to helpng people you dont even know. What a testament to how spwcial you are.

So as you go forward into the interview process, focus on your resilience and goals. No need to ho into detail, but it is perfectly ok to say you have endured horrific tragity which has opened your eyes to what is important in life... good health, both phisically and mentally. You have an insite nto patient distress that many nursres dont. It will shine through in your interactions with patients and coworkersrs.

Beyond anything anybody else could say THANKS...Someone told me yesterday that I have to begin to function in my new normal. I went to a job placement program that they have in my city based upon my diagnosis PTSD, Depression, anxiety, insominia. I more than qualify, so I hope it all works out.
