Hi all,
I am an American RN, doula, LCCE and CLC living in Germany. I am working as a nurse, but it is in more of a social worker type role and not clinical. I am looking for ways to boost my resume and skill set while I am overseas so that when I get back to the U.S. I will continue to be marketable in a clinical setting.
I have experience in all facets of women's health, including L&D. I am seeking suggestions on classes to do online, certifications to earn online, programs to enroll in (educational, etc) and ways to just "add" to my OB-GYN experiences.
So far the ideas I have had are: fetal heart monitoring class/cert through AWOHNN, infant massage cert, IBCLC cert, etc
Any other suggestions? I am specifically interested in staying with the scope of OB-GYN and newborn related stuff. I am already NRP and BLS certified. Thanks!
PLEASE NOTE: Because I am an American living in Germany, I cannot work as an L&D nurse here.

I would say the best thing to do to keep marketable is just to work as a nurse in OB/L&D. All the certifications are great and all, but hospitals want nurses with relevant experience - that's the thing that is most likely to get you a good job.
I cannot work in L&D while I am in Germany. I am American living in Germany, as I said in my original post. Also, I cannot legally work in a German hospital (they employ midwives instead of RNs, anyway). So that's why I posted this question, to get ideas on things I can do to stay "relevant" in my field until we go back.
Sorry, I am not conversant in German labor laws as they pertain to ex-pats. You wrote that you were currently working as an RN, so I assumed that you would be able to work as an RN in OB.
Good luck!
