Greetings!
Besides Frontline's "The Medicated Child", does anyone have suggestions on videos / movies that would discuss and give examples of the types of disorders we face every day in the unit?
I'd love to find a source that would show behavior and then say "See, that's characteristic behavior of XXX" Some of our techs would benefit from it as wells. Many take the same approach with all patients and I think it would help them if they saw examples in action rather than just reading out of a book.
Thanks!

Actually there are SOME good and accurate movies out of Hollywood that do a good job of depicting psych. diagnoses, I have used some with students. Hollywood seems to overdramatize the violent aspects, unfortunately. Some current textbooks even cite some movies they recommend. The best of the bunch that I know about are "A Beautiful Mind" (Schizophrenia), "Mr Jones" or "Michael Clayton" (Bipolar) "Fearless" (trauma, Depression). Among others.

"As Good As It Gets" is great for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and "Shutter Island" is great for...lots of reasons. LOL.

I started watching a little known movie called Manic with Joseph Gordon Levitt that I got from Nexflix. Its about a teenager with bipolar, I think. Its actually set in an adolescent psych unit. I didn't watch the whole thing because it was my day off from work and watching it was just like being at work. Very realistic.
