Successful Back Surgery?

Published

Hi - I have posted a few forums on here before, but I am 19-years-old, and beginning a nursing program this fall. As I have mentioned before, I have been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis. I have been warned by many, including my doctor that I may want to reconsider a career change while I am still early in my schooling - I refuse. I have not yet ahad surgery. I know that my back is going to give me hell, and I am terrified, yet I cannot give up my dream of nursing.

Anyways, I was hoping to hear people's stories on successful back surgery! What kind of surgery did you have? What department are you working in? Are you pain levels low/un-existent?

Thanks in advance!

Successful response to surgical intervention is an INDIVIDUAL experience. If your doctor is prescribing surgical intervention, either have the surgery, or not.

You need clearance from your physician to enter a field that will require a strong back. Dream or no dream... you will not be able to carry out your duties without it.

I totally get that, Been there, done that. I was just hoping to get some stories on whether or not people were able to return to nursing after back surgery. Thanks for your input.
