Hi all!
I am looking forward to moving to the ATL area in appox. 9 months. I just took a trip to ATL and visited some of the famous ATL hospitals (Northside, CHOA, Piedmont, ect...) and I decided that I did not want to work inside the city. I have found that I like the areas of Douglasville, Stockbridge, fayetteville, and acworth. My questions are...Are there any suburban hospitals within reasonable commute to these areas? Are the salary/benefits comparable to the inner city hospitals? And because I am presently doing my externship in the NICU, do any of the S hospitals have NICU's or special care nurseries? I do know of wellstar in the cobb C area but are there any more? Thank you for all of your help.

Prinzess, I just might be able to answer this one...
I live in Douglasville and work in the NICU at Cobb. We're level III and transport out all surgeries to Scottish Rite or Eggleston. Don't know that we're hiring today, but that could all change tomorrow.
Kennestone in Marietta (a stone's throw from Acworth), is our sister hospital with a level III NICU too. Same docs, same set up as us.
Douglas Hospital (in Douglasville, of course) doesn't have a NICU. They have a 6 bed L&D that does all LDRP and send any sick kids to us or Kennestone.
Tanner in Carrollton is a 10-30 minute drive from Douglasville, depending on what part of the county you live. I'm pretty sure they have a level II or III nursery.
Southern Regional is in Riverdale, not far from Stockbridge or Fayetteville, and South Fulton Medical Center is in East Point near the airport, and about halfway in between Douglasville and Stockbridge/Fayetteville. They both have NICUs.
Good luck with your move and I hope you find a place you'll enjoy living and working!

Thanks a bunch!!!!!!
This is very helpfull. I have never heard of Tanner, I will have to check them out. How long does it take you to get to cobb, is it a hectic drive?
I live in the far southwestern side of the county so it takes me 40-50 minutes to get to work on a good day. I know that sounds like a long time, but you get used to it living in Atlanta. Plus I don't get on the interstate. I'd rather drive 10 minutes extra on the back roads and be calm than stressed out from those flying fools. All my coworkers that live up in town (Douglasville) can get to work in 30 minutes or less
