Could any one give me any tips for studying med-surg. We are using the lewis book and I'm not liking it. Our instructors say to go off of their power points and not to dive in so much in the book, but for some reason I feel like I have to read. If I don't read I'll feel unprepared. Did anyone have this book before? What did you do to study?
I find it easier to read the coordinating material in my pathology book (it's very concise and clear) then go back and read supplemental books for MedSurg since my textbook is extremely thick and convoluted. There are not enough hours in the world to make it through all of that reading (there MUST be an easier way! í ½í¸©). I am using a MedSurg NCLEX review book (I think it's Peason) instead of my text. I'm open to suggestions on this. By the way, my program is excelerated so I complete an entire course in about two months. TIME is PRECIOUS!!!
My BEST Tip:
Many of my peers are "studying" for hours and hours on end but not remaining focused during that time; distractions are so attractive. What has helped a few of us is using an IOS app called Miracle Timer. It times out 30 minutes of work and 5 or 10 minutes of break time back to back for about two hours. When I turn it on, I do focused work. When it says it's breaktime I pause and let my phone seduce me with games, FB, etc. Studying seems a lot more productive this way.

I hate the Lewis book!! It's so big and extremely boring! Power points have become my bestfriend throughout nursing school. I would stick to those and if u still didnt get something then I would go back to your book to reiterate the information. It's helped me! I just got a 90 on my first test of the semester! and Im graduating in decemeber!
Another thing they make is a lewis pocket sized book. Its for clinicals..I cant remember exactly what its called. But it looks like the book but smaller. It highlights all the important information in just a few pages compared to the massive 60 or so pages you are used to reading.
