how to study for respiratory/cardiac class?

Published

I'm going to start my respiratory/cardiac class in a few days. I was wondering if you can give me a few pointers on how I should study or some helpful books I can get. I am a slow learner, slower than others. It takes more time for me to understand things in which I have accepted. I bought the memory notebook of nursing book which has some pictures to better understand some diseases. I also heard the nursing made easy books help too. What are some things that can help me better understand respiratory/cardiac? Thank you

Get the Saunder's Comprehensive Review; it divides things up by body system, and explains it in a wonderfully clear way. Well worth the money.

if you still have your a&p textbooks...go back and look through those. understanding the gas exchange process for respiratory and the pumping action of the heart are essential. and definitely know all the parts of the heart (chambers, valves, vessels), and where to place your steth for certain heart sounds during a nsg assessment. if you go into class with a good understanding of the a&p, you will be able to follow your profs. lecture more easily. also get pretty friendly with the medications you are assigned...the most important thing is to understand the categories of the drugs...that way you are not memorizing info. for one drug at a time. for ekgs there is this website (http://skillstat.com/flash/ecgsim531.html) you type in any username and you can go in and look at all the different types of rhythms. good luck =)

ITA with this! If you don't have it already go and get it...use the cd in the book for the nclex the questions are very similar. You can usually find cheaper, lightly used ones on amazon.com or half.com

Google it. There are a ton of internet sites that have auditory lung sounds, and different heart beats. You can not beat actually listening to them instead of trying to understand from the book.

Also, figure out what type of learner you are...I am very visual so I watched tons of you tube videos. While they are not perfectly clinically accurate, they help you to build the big picture you need to understand. Good luck!

thank you!! i will definitely get the saunders book, youtube, google, go back and learn my a&p, thank youu
