CRNA, green card, please advise fast!

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi,

I just got accepted to FIU. But I am a foreign student. I have 2 weeks to decide to take the spot. I am concerned because the job market has become tight, and I do not if hospitals will be willing to sponsor my green card. Please advise!

Hello,

I am not familiar with green card issues but maybe

you should post on the nurse-anesthesia.org website for

further impute. Good luck with everything.

Once you have a green card you do not have to be responsored by an employer. You just reappy with the INS every 10 years. You are considered a permanent resident. Are you eligible for citizenship?

I hope this helps.

Once you have a greencard you are considered a permanant resident and can work wherever you like. You do not need an employer to sponsor you to renew it.

First we have to clarify your immigration status. Are you a permanent resident (green card holder)? if not, what kind of visa do you have (F1, J1). If you have a green card, you are fine, you do not have to do anything. If you have a non-immigrant visa (F1, J1, optional training)... You should call FIU ASAP and find out what kind of visa they will offer you while you are a SRNA... FIU will not sponsor a greencard because you will be a student and not an employee. Since you will not be able to work full time as a staff RN, I doubt that any hospital will sponsor you a grencard. Besides the process to obtain a greencard lasts at least a year.....

Guys, thank you for your reply. I do not have a green card, that is my whole problem. I have a student visa, I have two weeks to decide to take the spot in the CRNA program. I called a few employers last week and they all told me that they are not sure, but probably they will not be willing to go through the paperwork because for them it is just easier to hire a US citizen or a permanent resident.
