Student Nurse Wants to Be a CNA

I'm excited to be starting nursing school next month. I understand that after one semester you can become a licensed CNA here in Md. I would appreciate any advise from anyone who has done this or advice on how to go about finding a part time job after January. I need to work part time while I'm in school and a CNA job sounds good. Thanks in advance.

Yes, as soon as you finish "Fundamentals" you can apply for your CNA lisence in MD. They will issue you a temporary license that day ( as soon as you hand in proof you had your fingerprinting done for background check), transcripts from school, application, and money. Your real lisence will show up about 2-3 months later. The temporary lisence is good for 60 days .

After you have that you can apply to any hospital you like basically. A lot of MD hospitals have programs for nursing students to work there while you are finishing school.

I am in such a position at GBMC. I have worked PT since January and will continue to do so until Mid- December..when I will take a break off to study for NCLEX. All I had to do to get the job was apply.

It's a good idea to find out when whatever hospital you want is having an open house or to speak DIRECTLY to a nurse recruiter there. Applying online, I found, often means nada.
