Student nurse externships

Anyone know any hospitals that participate in the state nurse externship program over the summer?

I know that BMH in Columbus, NMMC in Tupelo, and UMC in Jackson all participate, but I'm wondering if there's anywhere else?

Thanks! :)

Baptist, St Dominics, and CMMC all in Jackson do.

I'm doing my externship at NMMC this summer! Can't wait! :)

sorry had trouble posting....

Do you get paid to do externships? if not, can you work while you do an externship or is it too much? or if you are already working as a student aide will they let you incorporate your externship into your regular duties so that you are still able to receive compensation? i know that the externship is to ultimately help you and this is probably a dumb question, but there is no such thing as a dumb question, right?????:uhoh21:

Yes, the externship I'll be participating in pays $11/h and I'll have to complete 320 hours of work over 8 weeks. I'm assigned a practicing nurse, so I work whatever shifts she does.

No, an externship is separate from a regular aide/tech job. Schools/hospitals must be signed up to participate, and you must apply separately even if you already work at that facility.

The nice thing about externships vs summer jobs is 1) I have to enroll in a simultaneous course so I get college credit for it and 2) Unlike a regular summer/aide/tech job, we're able to perform any of the skills we've learned/checked off in school previously under the supervision of our RN - so IVs, caths, med admin, etc.

I'm really looking forward to learning alot. One of my classmates told me today that she'll be at Baptist-Jackson in telemetry. I think she'll probably breeze through our EKG interpretation exams this fall after doing that all summer! :chuckle

Wow, that's a pretty good hunka change for a broke student. :) I'm glad to hear that you are paid, that takes the stress off, not having to worry about bills and such.

Hey,

Does NMMC offer housing for the internship students?
