Nashima - I can help you out:
Department
Case Management, working in ER
Educational Background: MSN. Currently completing adult health clinical nurse specialist.
Years of Experience - LPN 2 years, RN 14 years
# of years with your healthcare facility - almost 10
Description of job tasks - arrange follow-up for difficult to place patients ie mentally ill, substance abusers, homeless, elderly that need nursing home placement
How does your job relate to the other health team - fits in very well to free up staff nurses to do patient care.
Do you plan on continuing your education? If so, in this area or another related field? I'll be finished with the clinical nurse specialist in May 06 and then I plan to change jobs - unsure at this point to what.
Why did you choose nursing? Nursing is a second career for me (I was in the military and did public affairs for 10 years prior to becoming a nurse) and I wanted to do something where I made a difference. I definitely do in the ER.
Has nursing changed in the last few years? If so, how? Definitely, it has evolved and changed. The acuity is higher and we are sending home many more people that need home care, assistive devices and generally more complex medical care.
What, if any, difficulties do you have working with other health team members? There are little to no difficulties with other team members since I transferred to case management from the ER. I maintain my clinical proficiency in order to be credible.
Do you feel that team members could work more effectively with each other? If so, how? In the ER, it is an all-RN staff with assistance from ED techs who are at least at the EMT-B level. The teamwork is phenomenal.
How do you feel about the new trends in healthcare? As with anything, one must adapt to the changing tides.
What changes has your facility made that have changed the type/quality of care given? I work in a large, level one trauma center and we have changes all the time in order to keep pace with the regulatory agencies as well as evidence-based practice.
Hope this helps.
Thank you! :kiss
