i got this packet to consolidate my student loans. I think i owe a 10K total, but they are currently in deferrment cuz i'm not working and about to have a baby. Does anyone know off hand if i consolidate will i still have this option to defer them should i need to? I'm just curious......... :) Thanks!

SnowymtnRN,
Yes, you can get deferments after consolidation. DO NOT make the mistake I made and consolidate yours and your husband's. [if you have one].
I put both of our loans together in one neat package, under my name and ssn. It looks like, I personally, have $51,000.00 in outstanding loans. I don't. Mine is about $20,000.00. Because I did this, I CAN NOT get ANY student loans!!
However, I consolidated with the Fed. gov. program. The William D. Ford Foundation, and I am in deferment until I finish school. What really bites is my DH can qualify for all kinds of SL. He owes $31,000.00, but it doesn't show up under his SSN.
Take care and God Bless!
Thanks for the tip! i didn't even know you could do that, but i don't think i'll try! lol I appreciate the info!
