i'm trying to study and get ready to take the lpn entrance exam. right now i'm trying to do a practice math test out of the study guide i have. but i'm stuck on one of the problems and was wondering if maybe someone could tell how to get the answer. the problem is 1 1/3 + 2 + 3/4 my choices are a. 4 1/12 , b. 5 1/12 , c. 4 2/3 , or d. 4 1/6. i've looked in the back for the answer and they say the answer is a. 4 1/12. i'm trying to figure out how they got the answer. any ideas on how to get that answer??? i'm really wanting to pass the test since i failed the first 2 times.

you find the common denominator between the 1/3 and the 3/4...which is 12...so they convert to 1 4/12 + 2 + 9/12 + 3 13/12, which is 4 1/12

that is the correct answer. i did exactly what murse just indicated. you can do it! don't allow this to stress you out..you're probably just getting it wrong because you are frazzled. good luck! :pumpiron:
