Stressing out over grades!!

Published

I am a pre-nursing student finishing up prereqs. My grades so far are:

Eng 101 B

psych 101 C+

I am currently in chemistry and finish next week then I can move on to A&P 1 in the summer and A&P 2 in the fall. I will be applying in January for the Fall 2015 program. I cannot retake English or psych because this was my second time. First time I was 17 and had to leave school due to very severe issues at home, so I failed and that counts as one attempt. I am sure I can get an A in both A&P 1 and 2 but am feeling down and hopeless like I'll never get accepted to a program and should look for a new major. Anyone get accepted with a C as a prereq grade?

Don't sweat it, Nursingdreamsx0.

There are plenty of nursing schools to go to, and I've found that many of them are different when it comes to your prerequisite years. One nursing school I've found does not have a limit on the amount of times you re-take a particular course, so long as you obtain a 'C' or better and that the science courses were taken within the last ten (10) years. Don't focus on just one particular nursing school, there's plenty of them out there.

The only prerequisites I've finished thus far are:

College Algebra - C

General Psychology - C

English Composition I - B

American History I - B

American History II - C

Public Speaking - C

Music Appreciation - C (but possibly a D should I not pass the exam tomorrow)

I've dropped out of Human Anatomy & Physiology I and Human Growth and Development due to the lack of preparation. I'll be re-taking Human Growth and Development in the fall of 2014, and I'll re-take Human Anatomy & Physiology I in the summer of 2015. I feel like I should take General Biology I this summer and Microbiology in the fall to sort-of get back on track with my science courses.

If you really want to be a nurse, you'll become one someday. Yes, you'd have to work hard (as I need to be doing rather than slacking off so much), but it is possible. Nothing is impossible until you give up.

I also got a C+ in Psyche I, however, I got A's and B's in all of my other prereq's and I got into a program. I think most nursing schools really look at your Chemistry, Microbiology and A&P I&II grades the most. If you get a B or better in those subjects, you should be good to go. However, it would still be in your best interest to do as well as possible in all of your classes because competition is stiff.

I got accepted into a competitive BSN program with a C in College Algebra, however, I had all A's and maybe 3 B's in the rest of my pre-reqs. You still have time. Don't sweat it. Do good on your other pre-reqs, especially the sciences, and you should be good.

With so little classes taken, you GPA will be so easy to raise quite a bit. You'll be fine.

Just focus on learning, good grades will follow.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies, I was being really hard on myself yesterday! :cat:

Specializes in ICU.

It honestly depends on the requirements for the program. Those 2 classes are two of the 4 my school looks at. Not getting A's in those would lose you 15 needed points. They are not weighted as heavily as the A&P's are but I have a question. Why did you get a C in Psych 101? Was it failure to study or complete projects or you just didn't get the material. I found English Comp and Psych 101 to be way easier than the A&P's that is why I ask. Just understand that you are still going to have to write papers and do tons of studying in A&P I and II. Don't take these classes lightly.

I've taken A&P for LPN school so I know already how much you have to study and understand the material
