Well I have never been much of a complainer but here recently I have been so miserable at my current job at a LTC facility that I feel I need to vent and see of other are dealing with the same problems as me and may have some advice. The job I currently have was my first job out of nursing school I have worked here about 8 months. I have been unhappy for a while now. A the new year they laid off 6 nurses and kept me. At first I felt proud that I was allowed to stay over many nurses that had been there several years. With the lay off I work my butt off 30 pt by myself to do complete care meds, g-tubs, colostomys, caths, injections... You name it i do it. It wouldn't be so bad if the nurse I relive wouldn't leave 2 hours of her work for me to do, along with finishing her admissions and such. My unit manager does the same thing leaves me with 8-10 charts filled with DR orders for me to transcribe. It's terrible to say the least. It's very unorganized and nothing ever gets done unless I do it. I have been trying and trying to find a new job but either no one is hiring or I'm not experienced enough. It's extremely frustrating. I'm also DX with a heart condition and the added stress is causing it to become more severe. I ended up passing out at work and hitting my head, ems has to come. Very embarrassing. I'm only 22 year old and I feel like I consumed by my unhappiness at my job! Anyone have any advice?

I tried LTC right out of nursing school, but it wasn't for me... I commend those who can do LTC. I feel like if you can last a year at LTC as a nurse, you can do any type of nursing! But that's just my opinion! :) I would keep trying to find another nursing position, something slower paced (doctors office, clinic setting, etc.).... especially if you have a heart condition. I know where you're coming from. I'm 32 years old & have high BP & anxiety. I'm on meds for the BP. My HR skyrockets if I get stressed out on the job. I have to work in low stress jobs as well... Don't give up. I'm sure you'll find something soon. Good luck...

Here's what my advice WOULD be: how long have you been an lvn for? if its more than a year then you qualify for this. If an LTC job is too stressful for you to handle...have you tried looking into getting your DSD certificate so you can teach? Teach CNAs? And such... teaching is one way to go. You can also take it too if you worked less than a year..and once u finish the course you'll be given the DsD certificate..

Thank you both for the advice. I love fast pace and staying busying, learning and being in a fast pace environment. I just don't like the lack of team work and the fact that everyone leaves everything on me because they think I'm young and don't know any better. I do my job and think I do it pretty well but I'm constantly catching up because my co workers don't pull thief weight. I mean I will literally be off for two days and come back and find labs stuck under papers from days and days previous. I had to calm down and talk to a family for hours last night because this same nurse left 3 or so exelon patches on a man. Having to so my own meds, wound care, I work skilled/rehab so I have to chart outrageous amounts. I just get very frustrated because I know they are using me and running all over me and nothing ever gets done. It's really sad we had several people quit recently due to all the problems.
Their not thief* typing from an iPhone ughh!!! But when I brought this problem to my DON I was told that I am "too compassionate" is there such a thing? I stop to help everyone and that's why I get behind. Last time I check I didn't become a nurse to shove pills down people throats. I want to be an all around support system in every way I can. But enough ranting I just received a call for an interview. Crazy how things fall into place :) hope I don't bomb it
Things happen for a reason :) and it seems as if you're receiving an oppotunity...so grab it! And there is nooo such thing as being toooo compassionate. Believe And depend on you and yourself cuz only you are able to make things happen...
Oh and goooodluck on the interview!!!! :)
Thank you very much! I'm a nervous wreak. Haha not very good at interviews! But I will do my best
Wreck** well interview went amazing. Have a friend who is the radiology tech there, she told me I was there top pick. They called all my references and it seems like everything went great! Sooo now just waiting on the call!!! I am just hoping its soon because my current job is getting harder and harder to go to each day
