First off thanks to everyone who has answered my other questions. I have decided to join the military in some fashion once I get closer to completing my BSN. I was seeking advice on how to strengthen my "packet" so I will have a greater chance of getting a commission. By next year I will have 11 yrs as a float pool nurse in the IMC cluster with the last 2 in the ICU cluster. However, I work at a university hospital that sees very little trauma and I'll also have no ER experience. I do train new staff but being a float have never done charge. I do have 2 certifications. Is that enough? What else should I do? Or, what would simply be a good experience that would benefit me later in the military. Thanks again!!

That is all great experience and more then many who will choose to join with a fresh ADN (in Army Reserve) or BSN. I would recommend looking up the units in the vicinity you plan on joining in order to see what types of units and then nurses that might be there - and then to see how you match up in terms of both interest and experience. If you talk to your recruiter you might be able to go have a tour of that local unit and perhaps talk to some nurses or the unit commander and see how their mission matches up with you.
That being said your base info sounds great.... everything else is making sure the physical goes smooth, weight/height is good and record is clean.
Best of luck and hope to hear more!
Hey thanks for the advice! I didn't think I had a choice in any particular unit. I figured that I would just assigned to an open spot.
it really will depend on what is in your geographic area.. if there is one unit - or 3 units but 1 with open slots of 3 units but one has a mission or specialty that you can bring exp to the table or seek to learn about then those are all good things to know prior to starting the process to tailor your goal and perhaps essay.
