strategies to assist families in palliative care

Hi all

I'm struggling a bit with a palliative care case study.

The client lives in a nursing home and has just had a second stroke. He is aphasic, dysphasic and incontinent with fluctuating conciousness.

The client's son is observed by staff to be isolated from the family, sitting in the corridor and reluctant to remain in the client's room.

The question is "what strategies could be implemented to assist the son during this time?"

It doesn't give us alot of info and I can't find much about helping families cope during the palliative period.

All I've got so far is to offer emotional and spiritual support, and to encourage the son to voice any concerns he may have regarding his father's care.

Any suggestions or good resources?

Thanks

Chris
