STNA SKILLS TEST????

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi I'm in my cna class now I'm in ohio and I will soon be taking my state test and skills test. I was just wondering what skills did you have to take and did you pass or fail on the first try and can you provide some good tips. I know I have the written test down pack but my nerves will probably get in the way of the skills test.

I am in NC, but I am sure most states are pretty similar. I waited a year after finishing my CNA class to take the test, but I say take it as soon as you can so the skills are fresh in yout mind. My skills were hand washing, measuring and recording weight of abmulatory pt, positioning on side, perineal care, and applying TED hose. The skills test isn't as bad as you would think if you try not to get too nervous. Always remember to explain what you are about to do to/for your pt, provide privacy, safety (locking bed/chair wheels, make sure they have shoes on if getting up, bed is in low position, bed rails raised if need be for certain skill) and infection control (I tell myself to be sure to wash my hands before anything and washing hands any time I take my gloves off). When you are finished with every skill always be sure to lower pts bed and give them the call light. Before you tell your proctor you are finished with each skill take a second and go back over what you did to make sure you did not miss anything. In NC we could correct ourselves as long as we haven't moved on to the next skill. Stay calm and you will do great! Good luck! Oh yea, I passed both written and skills my first try.
