Still in nursing school but thinking about RN residency!

Hello!

I still have about 1.5-2 years left of nursing school. I will be retaking my med-surg clinical this fall, since I did not pass last year. I know that my GPA isn't stunning and I have a failed nursing course now on my transcript. However, I have been thinking about graduation and finding a job after. I have been told that the job market is great for nurses because "nurses are always needed!" but I am feeling unsure about it. I am currently living in Nebraska but intend to move after graduation (hopefully to Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, anywhere out west near the mountains) I have been looking in RN residencies at least for Colorado, and it looks very competitive to get into, but also like the best opportunity to learn more about specific units and hopefully get a job. I don't believe I will have 4.0 GPA come graduation, but would it still be possible to be accepted into one of these programs? Should I even try to apply with a failed course and a not-so-perfect GPA?

Thank you!

So, I was in a similar position as you when I was living in Chicago. I had a little bit of a tough time in school initially and finished strong. I ended up applying to the University of Colorado hospital and I got accepted the day after I moved here. I don't recall ever being asked about my GPA on a job interview. As long as you graduate and are licensed, you're a nurse.

By the way, you don't have to start in an "RN residency". There are plenty of good jobs to be had that don't call themselves residencies.
