Stethoscope sound proofing (tubing) for amplification

Alright, my stethoscope is now so powerful that I can hear people talking in the hallway in addition to my patient's S3. I took a Littman Cardiology III, added an Eco amplifier, and came to realize that I probably need some sort of sound proofing. Entirely too much sound is being picked up through the tubing, and I can literally hear people talking 20 feet away when the eartips are in. Anyone had similar issues, a PE/ME/other engineer (in their spare time from nursing, of course), Mr/Mrs Fixit? I can find tape that absorbs sound, of course, but the problem them becomes infection control. How do I disinfect the thing/keep it clean if it's taped up with 1/2cm of tape? Ideas? thoughts? Award for solving my problem: Picture of me with whatever ridiculous contraption you devise. Or even if it's not ridiculous :)
