hi, everyone...im Mark, a new member of this online community although been here many times before to look at articles that may be of help....
i'm a new graduate from a nursing school here in the Philippines, and had just recently took the board exams and passed. i'm currently in the process of acquiring my license from our licensing authority...and after which im gonna take the ielts this august....
here are my questions:
1. if im going to work in the u.s.a. what are the things needed to allow me to work there?
2. im planning to work in new york....do i have to take cgfns exams? or take nclex directly in hongkong. after which, if i pass what would be my next step?
Is it to apply for the visa screen certificate?
3. from my research in the net, here's what ive gathered to be the steps to take in having to work there:
a. must be a licensed nurse in own country
b. must take nclex, and ielts (or similar)
c. if both passed, must apply for visa screen cert. by the cgfns org.
Are these all correct? If so, please correct my info.
And do suggest the correct steps to take...
Thanx, and more power to the no. 1 online community for nurses!!!

Read the answer that I posted to you under the International forum. There is a sticky there giving you all of the information that you need at the top of the page called "Fastest Way for Getting Licensed in the US."
Let me know if you have any more questions..................

we are on the same ship. i am still in the philippines, hoping to get out of the country and work abroad. what are ur plans on how to get to ny? are u going to apply direct or sign in an agency. ny do not need any cgfns, however if u want to have ur visa processed fast its better if u passed the cgfns exam. The nclex exam will take time in waiting for ur illigibility, att and atb. u need to pay for the new york verification which is $275. if approved then u can have ur illigibilty.
nclex can be taken in korea, saipan, guam and hongkong. the first 3 i mentioned need visa, so thats not recommendable. hongkong, in the other hand only need the att however, u need to pay for the following: bon $105
nclex $200 and pearson vue. $150. In guam and saipan, you only pay the first 2.
According to sec. ang (dfa) NCLEX IN THE PHILIPPINES IS POSSIBLE hopefully in december.
if u will take either cgfns or nclex u ned to take the english exam either tse with toefel or ielts, inorder for you to have ur initial visa. initial visa cost $250. u also need to apply to ins and pay $325.
so, if i were you it is better if u just sign in an agency. try to check the http://www.poea.gov.ph and look for an agency with job orders
