Hello. Im an aspiring student at the University of Texas at Arlington and Im going to be a freshman but I know that I want to be a CRNA. Anyways I want to know ways or classes that might have been took to stay on top of your nursing game while CRNAs were earning their one year experience in ICU. I know the rumor that when you stop going to school and start working its hard to pick up school again so was there any special study method that kept them learning while working. Thank you.

When you get to a critical care unit, there will be so much to learn, it's just a bit different from classwork. It's more a combination of hands on and reading and gleaming from other people (oops, I'm not sure if that's a real word). Don't worry about it.

I started a program after being out of school for 3 years and am doing extremely well. I compare it to a bicycle, you just get right back on.

Without getting all mystical about it, allow me to suggest that school is only the beginning of our education. A professional education will ideally teach individuals how to teach themselves, will inculcate in students the habit of life-long learning, continual study and daily analysis, introspection and self-criticism that leads to unending improvement. Professional education is more a process than an obstacle. An evolution, not a hurdle.
In anesthesia, after over 40 years now, I can honestly say it's a rare day when I don't learn at least some small new pearl in clinical patient care every day. Learn how to teach yourself and you'll not need to pick up school again.
