hello! I'm an agency nurse trying to decide whether to stay on my previous ortho unit or switch to a tele unit for my next contract. I have 1.5 years of experience as a medsurg/tele RN.
one of my main goals is learning and seeing new things, I want to eventually go to the ICU after I spend a year doing agency. my first assignment was in ortho which was new for me, but it started to get a little boring - a lot of pre- and post-ops - we had some medical patients too but it was a lot of THA, TKA, spinal surgeries + some traumas.
I'm a little hesitant to switch units - ya know, like what if the new unit has terrible management or other issues - but I'm also kinda ready to see something new.
I've worked tele before, but do you think that I will see more on a tele unit that's at a big magnet teaching hospital, rather than a small community hospital's? and, is it better preparation for going to the ICU eventually?
thanks for your input!
