Grew up in San Diego....gosh I miss it.

I lived in the Kearny Mesa area/Clairemont area which at that time was some of the most affordable apartments...due to being near the community college and the University of San Diego. Not sure about how it is now. The nice thing about San Diego is that most places are easily commutable thanks to the pretty intelligently done (I think) freeway layouts. Seems like most places you can get to within twenty, thirty minutes. I will say that I personally would not want to live in the more southern parts of San Diego. Depends on what kind of atmosphere you're looking for...for example, Pacific Beach is more free-spirited and laid back than say, La Jolla.

BTW, If you're traveling, is the company not helping you with housing?

I always start with www.rent.com to get some idea of what is avalable in an area.

But why was this not done by your travel company? When you go to a new place on your own, you will need to deal with getting all of the utilities turned on, furniture, etc. Usually not enough time for that if you begin work next week.

There's an employee shuttle that picks up/drops off at the Amaya trolley station if you want to avoid driving to work all together. The shuttle takes about 10 mins or so to the hospital, runs q 15 mins. There are lots of condos along the trolley line, not sure which ones are for rent, though.
