Hi Everyone,
On top of the Nursing classes I need History 1312, Math 1302(College Algebra), Literature, ENGL 2338(Technical writing) and Texas government, as well as 2 upper division electives. I did take Medical terminology at a community college, but apparently I have to take another for the upper division elective?
Based on what I've read I think I will take college algebra at a Community College. Any advice on the other courses mentioned above would be much appreciated. Such as which Literature course would you recommend? And NURS-EL 3300 Cooperative Nursing Work Experience I, NURS 4300 Cooperative Nursing Work Experience II, or NURS 3352 Legacy of the Family?
As for the nursing courses I'm trying to map out which ones to take and in which order, as well as which ones could be doubled up on. From what I've read I know that Nursing Research should be taken alone, as well as Vulnerable Populations. Holistic Health Assessment I've read to be easy but time consuming. Apparently Health Promotion, Holistic Care of Older Adult, Professional Nursing, and Nursing Leadership are not as difficult courses based on what I've read on here.
Also, with the assessment class I am curious about the "patient" you write about. I work as a foster care nurse and my job involves tracking all of their medical/dental information, advocating, coordination of appointments, etc; but no direct patient contact.
I am the mom of a toddler and work part-time, so I know this is a lot to ask, but any information will hopefully help me to be at ease, or at least help me to plan for what is ahead...
Thank you!

HIST 1312 - I recommend not to take it at UTA. Take it anywhere else. It is terrible.
Without direct patient contact, I'm not sure how you are going to do NURS-EL 3300. That class consists of journaling about patients you have and then, at the end, writing a fluff paper about it. It's a gimme class, but it's predicated upon taking care of patients. You may need to get a PRN job somewhere so you can have patients to talk about. I'd recommend asking your advisor.
NURS-EL 4300 is the same as 3300, just a second time. You can skip this course if you get a nursing certification. I used the CCRN. I'm not sure what non-critical care certs they take. I'm sure they have a list.
The patient you write about for your assessment class is a real person. Most people use their spouse. The physical assessment is VERY detailed. I honestly don't know who, other than a spouse or partner, would let you assess them in such detail. It's not a hard class. Just lots of writing.
Good luck! I'm very happy I went with UTA. Graduated in December.
I obtain all of the medical records on the foster children I track and advocate for, but not direct patient care. I'm guessing that wouldn't work? I'll have to figure that one out....
Thank you for the information, I appreciate it.
