Hallo to anyone,i am an ex soldier living in germany,i have worked roughly 27 years for the brit military either as a soldier and civilian and have recently received my notice due to cost cutting.Now i am wondering where i can go from here,my sister is a psychiatric nurse working in st albans and has suggested nursing,im not sure how i´d look in a skirt but joking apart am now looking at this option.Can anyone give me some advice here please.

Hi

sorry to hear that you have lost your job. If you are thinking about nursing or health care as a career you have some options. If you are considering nursing, you could apply to work and/or train as a health care support worker. That would give you some insight into what is involved.

Or you could apply for a Diploma/Degree nursing course in Adult, Child, Mental Health or Learning Disability nursing. There are no university fees to pay if you study nursing and if you took the diploma route there is a bursary which makes studying a little more affordable.

A friend of mine was ex-army and he worked as an HCA, but then moved on to the Ambulance service...just a thought, don't know if you had considered that? They have technician and paramedic grades.

I lived in BAOR for many happy years but don't really have any regrets about coming back to the UK.
