I have been a nurse for five years, and am interested in School Nursing. How do you get into substituting? I live in New Jersey. Thank you for any advice you may have on getting into the field.

The regulations for school nurses varies from state to state. You might be best served by contacting/applying for the school districts you are interested in, and finding out there.what you will need to function in that state. Also, check the school health websites in your state for information. I live in NY state, but I believe it is more complicated in NJ.

I'm in NJ too - you have to have an RN to sub in NJ. Contact the district you'd like to sub for. I would be shocked if any district turns you down as everyone is looking. ( If you're in morris county, pm me, i'll hook you up in my district.) You need to apply at each district individually and get individual board approval as a sub in that district.
You need to pay for your sub certificate which is (i think) $75 and you also have to get finger printed for the dept of ed at Sagem Morpho whch is about another 75 bucks.
The season for field trip is coming up fast so lots of nurses will be needed to cover those trips. Let me know if you have any other questions

You just missed the New Jersey State School Nurses Conference a week ago. The state organization would be a good resource for you.
