Starting out in the SICU

Specialties MICU

I am a new grad who will be starting in the SICU next week.

I was just wandering if anybody had any advice for me.

Anything would be appreciated, such as a good reference book that I can buy to look stuff up in, and anything else that would be helpful

Also what exactly I can expect, as right now I am just a little nervous (but excited at the same time).

Hey fNb!

Congrats and good luck! I am a newbie as well; only been an RN for 1 year this March. I also went right to the SICU and found it to be both intimidating and exciting. Even though I was a Respiratory Therapist for 8 years before switching I still find myself second and third guessing myself...going home questioning my day. When I asked a 15 year veteran RN about my self doubt and second guessing he said he'd be more worried about someone who wasn't that introspective and questioning; overconfidence can be a killer!
