I started an online RN to BSN program while I was waiting to begin work. I had planned to go ahead & take 6 hours this fall, but I'm wondering if it would be better to postpone school. My residency is July-Nov. I'd be taking 1 class at a time for 5 weeks. But I also have kids & a husband that I don't want to neglect.
You all that have been through residency, what do you think? Classes or no for the fall? (The big benefit to taking them is to postpone paying my loans a bit more & obviously to get the degree faster)

I think you should be fine. It just depends on how quickly you wish to finish the BSN. If it is rather soon and you don't mind a little hustle then I would just push through because most likely it will be manageable. I did the exact thing and I didn't feel stretched too thin. Good luck! :)

I did a 3 month ER residency 2 years ago. It was intense and all consuming. We had alternating weeks of class and clinical, as well as assignments and exams. I am also married with 2 children (4 and 8 at the time). I had my ADN and opted to wait to start BSN classes until residency was completed. I am glad I did. I was able to focus completely on my residency and acclimating to my new role as an ER nurse. I'm sure it's a very personal decision and depends on what your particular residency entails, but I'm satisfied I made the right one. Just curious...where will you be working?
Thanks for sharing! I have a few weeks of residency before the enrollment deadline for fall, so maybe I'll see how it feels. :-)

I guess I'll get started with the residency & see. Thanks so much for sharing!
