Starting Nursing School

I am very excited that I will be starting Bunker Hill Community College for the Evening Program in Spring 2017. (Yes, I am aware that this is an ASN, and will most likely need a BSN to reach my ultimate career goals.) It took my 4 years chipping away at pre-reqs and co-reqs while working full time and having to turn down other schools due to financial reasons.

If you attended this school (or are currently attending) what have your overall experiences been like? What should I be aware of going in?

For everyone else, what's the one thing that you wish you would have known going into nursing school that would have been really helpful?

I appreciate all of your comments in advance.

The way you are going is the best option of all.

Many people confuse the RN designation with the various academic preps such as ADN. BSN, etc.

In the eyes of the state a RN is what opens the door to working any venue that requires a RN.

Academic degrees on the other hand are a completely different animal altogether.

In the distant past the price diferential between an ADN and a BSN was relatively insignificant. Today it's completely different.

The only way to make a nursing career pay is to become a nurse as cheaply as possible. When I hear of somebody spending 100K or more for nursing school I can understand why so many nurses are terrible at math. If you spend too much on school you may have an RN but you will reside in the state of "screwed."

The way you're going is the way to do it. When you start working get the hospital you work for to subsidize your BSN through tuition reimbursement if you want to be a whatever in the future.

Minimize the loans.
