FINALLY! The wait has just taken forever but I'm finally starting NS this Fall at Pima CC. Any other newbie Pima nursing students here?

Former Pima student here! Congrats on getting in!
When is your orientation? Sometime this summer?
You will now have to take a HESI entrance test. It's easy, but if it's been a while, brush up on some nutrition and A&P, and simple math. Also, you will have to take the math test right away when school starts, so you should study for it over the summer.
If you want an idea for what books you are going to need, swing by the west campus bookstore and look for NRS 104 books. Don't buy any yet (with the exception of the drug calculation book). Don't buy the syllabus yet unless it says Fall 07 on the cover.
You will need a steth (no BP cuff unless you want it), and some things for clinical like a penlight, nursing scissors, some way to organize your clinical paperwork...
Do you have your schedule yet? If not, I used to go to the Pima board, and look at the nursing classes. When you start to see placements in the classes, then you can look yourself up on Banner online and your schedule should be there. You will find it online before you get it in the mail.
I'm so happy there are finally Pima students here (well, one at least!).
Hi cardiacRN! My orientation is on June 5th, so pretty much just around the corner. I signed up for the A&P refresher class that's a 2 day thing the weekend before the orientation. The HESI test will occur immediately after the orientation.
At the moment I'm just working on getting the fingerprint thing done, drug test done, etc. I don't have my schedule or anything yet, I figured I'd find out more about that at the orientation?
I feel sort of clueless as to what all is involved in nursing school because I've just been so focused on all of my general ed requirements. I'm really psyched though to be finally starting!
So I'll need to buy a steth, etc, will I also need to buy scrubs and all that?
Yes, but you have to buy scrubs at a certain location (at least I did), so I'd wait on that until orientation.
Ok, if you go to the pima schedule of classes for Fall 07, and look up nursing, you will see the three classes listed. They will say, Cap (capacity) of 30, and REM (remaining). These are listed right after the location of the class.
Check that periodically. When you start to see it change, for example, the capacity will remain the same, but the remaining seats will decrease, the placement has begun. When this happens, login into Banner online, and look up your schedule. Soon, your schedule will be online, and you will receive it at least a week before you would have in the mail.
Oh good to know! Figuring out my schedule as far in advance is great because we have a 3 year old and therefore we need to get our childcare arrangements hammered out beforehand.

Congratulations on your start of the program! I just finished my second block at Pima. You will find out ALOT of information at orientation. In fact, you will probably be on information overload. I know I was! That's when you will find out your schedule, which will probably be Monday and Tuesday lecture/Pharmacology/Skills; and Thursday Friday Clinicals. They also tell you what scrubs to buy and who to buy them from along with other stuff.
Good luck! :welcome:

I am starting in the fall also. I am really excited to FINALLY get started, but I am sure the wait was worth it 8)
I am glad to see some pima students on 8)
Cool, well I'll see you at orientation on Tuesday then! I'll be the frazzled looking one, LOL.
Let me know how your orientation goes 8) I don't get to go untill the 12th.
Oh, you're going to the UofA! I thought you were another Pima student.
I just packed my backpack for my A&P refresher class starting tomorrow. I've been out of school for too long (my last classes were fall semester) so I am psyched to be starting class again, even if it is for only 2 days. And I'm doubly psyched that I had the presence of mind to save my notes from one of my A&P classes. Go me!
No, I am going to Pima, there are just two orientations. I am taking that 2 day a&p class too. Was I the only one who didn't come close to remembering most of what the teacher was saying? I guess that means I have a lot of studying to do before school even starts! 8)
Oh hey, I'm in class with you! Yes, I was totally intimidated by all of the info I either didn't remember or never knew. Yikes!
