Starting new job next week and have questions about what to expect

Published

Hi everyone I am starting my Home Health Care job next week. I am coming from OR nursing. I am a little worried now that I have talked to a couple people whom I work with now. Both people said they did not like Home Health Care. They pay is salary 1504.00 biweekly and they say it's doesn't equal to the amount of hours worked. After you do 24 visits or 48 visits you get 40.00 a visit, or oasis visit 60.00, admit visit is 80.00. The commitment is 60 visits biweekly. Is this a good base pay and visit pay. Im told its not worth it. Working OR for 2 years sometimes I don't feel like I'm doing direct patient care and that's what I enjoy. I know that I shouldn't listen to them but now i'm a little scared that I won't like it. My question is how do you guys like home health care, is the pay good. any imput would be great.

Specializes in acute care then Home health.

I just started a few weeks ago and I really like it even though its been crazy. But I have to say if the money wasn't there I probably would hate it. I get paid 34$/hr and get overtime alot of days because I work over 8 hours. Plus, lots of on-call time which adds a differential, and mileage is paid after 20miles/day. I've heard that salary employees get worked to death and its not really worth it, but it sounds like you get some extra if thats the case. $750 a week, thats $18.75 an hour if 40 hrs a week. I see 6pts on average every day and lets just say one of those is a SOC you probably would only get 60-100 bucks extra per day so thats 26-31per hour. Your gonna need to work you butt off to make decent money is the bottom line.

Thanks for your imput gives me something to compare 2. The salary is suppose to be based on a .8 so well see if thats the case. The salary is also based on 24 visits a week, then I'm paid for each additional visit, depending on the visit it's anywhere from 40-80$ per visit. Milage is .50 mile, i don'tknow if that is good or not. The individuals that I talk to made it sound like a bad place to work. Guess it feels a little overwhelming right not. Thanks for the help.
