Starting New Job FINALLY after 2 Years, Advice for Prep

Published

Hi. Passed my boards in August of 2010. Circumstances in my personal life delayed me looking for a job for a good eight months. When I finally started looking, got no response or kept getting need one year of experience. It has been a long waiting game and I wanted to give up a lot, but I was just recently offered my first job doing home care, part time. I took it, and I am excited but oh so scared that I have forgotten so much. Any ideas what what I can do to prep and review? Any tips for home care? Thanks really appreciate this! So want this to work out, but been out of the game so long a little intimdating! I do work as a patient care tech at a hospital for the last few years, so I am not completely out of the loop.

Trust me, it would probably be intimidating even if you got a job right out of class. Its stressful no matter what. The best advice I have is to make sure you pay attention to the person training you and always always always ask if you're not sure. You'll get more respect from your superiors (if they're worth their salt) by preserving patient safety. Keep lifelines open- call friends who are nurses or maybe friends you made in class. It's all about networking!
