Hello everyone! I’m so excited! I start in October. I was wondering what are some items that you would recommend buying to help prepare for the residency? What would you pack nightly into your bag? And any other advice is welcome!

Congratulations on your new job and welcome to all nurses. May I make a recommendation? Ask the mods to remove the identifiers from your thread title and if your user name is your actual name pick something less identifiable. You may want to vent or ask questions here and it could get you in trouble with your employer. I'm not meaning to be a downer but it has happened and people have lost their jobs over social media posts.
As to your question, you'll figure out what you need after you've gotten on the floor but a good start is:
1. Stethoscope
2. Good pair of scissors
3. Penlight
4. Water bottle
I wouldn't add much more until you see what you actually need and your preceptor can help you.
Thank you! I just changed it. I appreciate your help!

Snacks! I especially love a good yogurt with granola... carbs, protein, and healthy fats to keep your brain working! I always snack more during night shifts. I also love my glass water bottle that is marked for one liter. It helps me meet my hydration goals, which always helps me stay more alert! If your unit has a Keurig, pack a few k-cups... good luck and congratulations!
