Starting Med-Surg in Aug ~ advice please

Published

I'll be starting Med-surg in August. Does anyone have any good advice as to what I should start doing to prepare for this class? I've heard it's really difficult and I'd like to get started on it ASAP. I already bought the HESI book and CDs from the HESI website. I don't know about other schools, but at mine we take the HESI test after every semester and I've heard this book is very helpful. Anyhow ~ any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi everyone,

Start MedSurg in a couple weeks-terrified. People in the classes ahead of me are dropping like flies due to MedSurg so I am wondering what you all found to be really great resources for this class. I am considering purchasing MedSurg Made Insanely Easy and/or Lippincott's Review Series for Medical Surgical Nursing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:bowingpur Thanks so much,

"Straight A's in..." books very cut and dry, not much explanation behind the theories. "...Made Easy" books offer a lot more explanation and pretty easy to understand. Not all subjects fully included, but they still helped me out...a lot!

The "Straight A's" & "Review Series" pretty much hit the high points only. If you don't already have a good understanding of the material, these books will be confusing. As the OP stated, not much explanation behind the theories. They're good for quick review only. Your good ole text books are your best bet for in depth study. :)

Is there any where on line that will have scenerio review questions for med surg....thanks......merryheart

Try looking through the very first pages & cover of your text book...all my books had a "companion website" & came with cd's. I found this to be very helpful study material.
