Hello,

I am a nursing student. I also have a CNA license and an associate degree for Business. Now, I want to have my own Healthcare agency- means that I will send certified CNA,house chore, homemaker, personal care. I know for a fact that in order to open a nursing agency, I need my RN license. But what about just an agency for homemaker and house chore??? I do still need my RN license in order to open an agency for that???

a lot depends on the services your staff is going to provide and your state and local laws. who is going to pay for these services? if payment is going to come from the patients themselves then depending on the "personal care" your employees provide will determine whether any nursing is actually involved or not. if you expect you are going to bill and be paid by any government agencies you need to start reading the laws because this kind of stuff is highly regulated if the government or insurance companies have any part in paying for it.

the place to start looking would probably be with your state department of public health or state department of health. they usually administrate the laws and/or license healthcare businesses. you should also check with your city to see if they have any specific laws in place that would pertain to their type of business. you will need to have a business license from your city to operate anyway.

you might be able to get around the law by hiring an rn to manage the workers. nurse practitioners who open up their own businesses get around the requirement of having to work under the supervision of a physician by hiring one to work for them as a consultant.
