starting CRNA school...any advice?

Have some fun, pay some stuff off and enjoy your time off. I just (successfully) finished my first semester at TWU and know what I am talking about!

Develop a plan for action-meet many classmates, get into study groups, brush up on organic naming junk(before you start!), buy used books in advance and be sure to take out about 5k more than you think you need.

Be aware that when you start school social life, family life, ect is bare minimum...the dumb forward emails you get from beloved friends are a major source of entertainment.

Hi all,

I just finished my first semester of CRNA school. My best advice for upcoming juniors is to NOT fall behind on your reading assignments. Make sure you are prepared for your next day's case. Start getting used to NOT having a social life for the next 24 months or so (talk to your loved ones NOW about it) and DON'T get discouraged if and when you make a mistake in the clinical setting. Remember, we'll all here to LEARN. Oh, and get a good PDA with good programs, like ePocrates (to look up your pt's meds, check for interactions, etc) and Anesthesia management (I found these two programs invaluable in the clinical setting). Lastly, pat yourselves on the back at least once a day for having made it this far!

Is it wrong to become a doctor with the sole desire to be a surgeon--I think not! You really have no choice-plus you need the ICU nursing experience. You should enjoy ICU nursing--you will use a lot of the same critical thinking skills in the OR--Good luck--Jeff
