Starting the countdown....

Published

After having been stuck in the midwest for the past 6 years, my husband and I are planning on moving to Oahu. I lived there between 1998-2003, and have been missing it since, my husband had never been there prior to our wedding in February of this year, but he fell in love with it as well.

Our projected arrival date is around May 1 of next year, hoping to take some time off before starting work June 1. We are both RNs with telemetry experience in stepdown units, and will have 2 years experience by the time we move. I've been watching the job boards at both Queens and Kapiolani, occasionally I'll check out Tripler as well. I've also heard that Altres is a good agency to work for.

Does anyone have any feelings either way? What's the word on St. Francis (although I think the name has changed since I lived there)

How easy do you think it would be for 2 nurses to get hired at the same hospital?

Any and all input is appreciated. We're not looking for travel assignments, this is definitely a permanent relocation.

Glad to see you are returning to the islands. E komo mai!

1. I would NOT work for altres. I and several people i know have worked for them. Its not a good experience if you are looking for a Travel assignment with them. I would recommend Nursefinders or Specialized. A company with more ALOHA!

St. Francis is now Hawaii Medical Center

If you have any more questions feel free to let me know

Aloha

What is it specifically that you didn't like about Altres?

I'm looking for permanent placement rather than a travel assignment if at all possible, though I would take a travel assignment if I could find nothing else. However from talking with people I know who work on Oahu, it looks like I should be able to find a permanent position.
