Starting Block 3!:D

Hey all! Starting Block 3 at CGCC next week, any tips on getting through and rocking OB/Peds? Or having clincals at Banner facilities? I've had clincals at Mayo and South Mtn Long term care facility and was previously an outside contracted employee at a Banner facility. Any advice or tips would be appreciated! Likewise if anyone has questions about blocks 1 or 2 I'd be happy to help with whatever I can :)

Thanks!

Congrats on making it to block 3 almost done. I am applying in Feb. for the NAU CEP program that starts this summer. Can you give me any advice on block 1? I'm done with classes until this summer do you think I should get the fundamental book and begin to look it over? Is nursing school what you expected? Thank you for any information you can give me.

Hey Brenda- The biggest thing about block 1 is learning how to think like a nurse. I have always been the type of student that never really studied much or read much and could still pull off As (not to sound conceited or anything!!). But nursing school is completely different. Its not regurgitating information you learn. Its not so many yes or no questions. Its about the application of WHAT you know. So yes you do need to memorize a ton of information but you also have to know how and when to apply it. The biggest thing for me was re-learning how to study and how to take tests. It IS different. I think you're really smart doing CEP. I wish I would have done it that way. I guess my advice would be to be prepared to have nursing school take over your life, be prepared to make sacrifices for it. DONT be discouraged if it doesn't "click" for you right away. Everyone seems to have that "ah ha!" moment lol its kinda great. Make friends quick. Flash cards and study groups are a necessity. Encourage everyone. If you arent familiar with med terminology start getting cozy with it. It seem to be a huge obstacle for people brand new to the medical field.

anything else i can help with let me know!

Thank you so much for the information and the advice it will go a long way. I think you will be fine with OB/Peds you have made it this far and you might like it.

By any chance can you tell me what maricopa community colleges use for their exit exam in each block? Do they use Hesi? Thank you

Yes, they use hesi.

yeah at the end of every block there in a proctored final and proctored hesi.... I dont know if I would call it an "exit" exam as you can not pass it and still pass the block. typically ive found the hesi to be easier than the class final

Thank you both for all the information and help.
