when to start working?

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

I just graduated from an ADN program. I currently work as an LPN. I have a vacation in July and I don't want to start working until afterwards. I'm wondering if I look for a job now, and get it, is it ok to tell them that I can't work till like July 20? I still have to pass the boards which I will most likely take in early July.

Also, I asked my professors for reference letters when I was in school. Does it matter to the employer if the dates on the letters are from May, instead of the current month? (assuming they're reading it in June/July).

Reference letters dated in May should not be a problem. As far as a starting date of July 20, that should also not be a problem should you interview in late June or early July, as the hiring process may take a few days. But if it were me, I would not get serious until I had taken and passed the NCLEX. I would not want to create a bad impression of myself and possibly miss out on a good job, if I were to fail and have to reschedule. Congratulations on your achievement and good luck on passing the NCLEX on your first attempt!

Yeah I was also thinking about waiting until after the NCLEX. Stress of a new job and studying to pass is a lot. Thanks a lot for your input!
