Start Nursing School in LPN vs ADN program??

Published

Anyone that has done the LPN then the RN.. please help! I am a 32 year old with a 2 year degree in law enforcement already. I am currently doing my last semester of science gen eds for nursing that I had to redo since it has been over 5 years. I have a 3.55 GPA. I have a learning disability for reading comprehension and memorizing. This is a huge struggle for me. My intention is to get my RN and then BSN. I am debating academically if I should do the LPN before the RN just to get a base learning. My advisor says that LPN is harder because it is accelerated. Now I am confused. I wanted to do things in steps. What if I can barely make it thru the LPN? Atleast I am not out 2 semesters of class and 6 weeks of clinical. As opposed to the RN that is 4 semesters, if you fail you wasted time. If you are an LPN they hold 10 spots in the RN program. You start in semester 2 then of the RN. I have enough points for the LPN but not enough to get in to the RN yet. I would have to retake a couple old gen eds. I am torn on what to do... Help!? Advice!?

I would do the ASN. First of all, job opportunities are going to more limited with the LPN. Secondly, you said you wanted to be an RN. Just go for it. If you've maintained a 3.5, I don't see why you couldn't handle and ASN program.

Have faith in yourself.
