Staffing

We talk a lot about staffing in hospitals but what about staffing in all the lond term healthcare facilities. Not that hospitals are not so very important but a lot of times it's the long term healthcare facilities that get this patient and it most times goes down hill from there. Not enough staff , staff unable to do proper care because of this. The call offs in these places are out of control. Nurses who work there are counted in the nursing hours but do not work the floor. The star counts that as ok though. Assisted living facilities are getting just as bad. They are taking in residents that should be in LTC facilities. But you know where these places can get the money they will take it. Most of these aides are not even trained to care for these people. There needs to be stricter laws and the state needs to become more involved and actually do something about this. Errors are happening, resident care is lacking to say the least. Nurses have to be tv repairmen and plumbers chefs and more. We need to be able to focus on the health of the resident. It has been run this way for so long no one looks for a change. Look around why do we see so many facilities being looked at for beds sores that shouldn't happen deaths that maybe could have been prevented. But so many responsibilities placed on nursing which should not be. We can't be in more than one place at a time. Mrs passes in these places should upon arising and at bedtime and then prns when directed. Mose of these places are out of compliance because we put times for med passes. Quite a few of them like 9a 12p 5p 9p. Should like be. That's already setting the facility up for failure. One fall during med pass outs that nirse out of compliance for sure. Management needs to be looked into. Bonuses and other things going into pockets that should be going into resident care. I love my residents and I am their advocate but speaking out and up does not do any good or there would have been changes made long before now. Thank you.

The sad reality is that people see nursing homes as places old people go to die and they're funded accordingly. There are very nice places out there, but you've got to plan well and be financially capable to have a chance at getting into one of them.
