Am I living in the Twilight Zone, or was there a similar thread about Stadol and Narcan posted last week? I could swear I responded to one, and now I can't find it. I can't imagine that there would have been anything so controversial in it that it would have been removed. Please tell me I'm not nuts!
Just remember to log out when you are done and let's see if that takes care of the problem. I accidentally started that thread and did not realize that Linda was logged on to my computer at work. I have found that unless you log out, the website remembers you after the computer is turned back on. I hope that works or I will have to restrict my use of allnurses to home as I allow others to use my computer as needed. Has anyone else had this problem?
at your cervix,
What do you mean by a "sleepy baby"? Do you mean a baby with respiratory depression, or a baby who is in a period of non-reactivity: sleepy, and disinterested in feeding, making eye contact, etc.?
Narcan is indicated in respiratory depression, but not for non-reactive newborns. That is a normal state following delivery, just inconvenient if it occurs when parents want to bond, or if a baby needs a feeding due to a low glucose. If that is why Narcan is being given to newly delivered infants, they are most likely reacting to the needle stick, rather than the med itself, and there are other less invasive measures that can be taken.

How many of you automatically give a baby Narcan immediately after delivery from a mother who was only given Stadol IV in labor?
