I had a phone interview a few days ago for a ED tech shift at either st. Clare or st. Mary's ER. I still haven't heard back from anyone. This is how the interview went.-
So apparently we don't do blood draws, ekg, stuff like that. they said the phlebotomy techs do that-i'm guessing medics? there is no additional training=[. I will shadow until I feel comfortable with doing things on my own. pay is good, i guess. we get scrubs for uniforms from the hospital. Shifts are from 7pm-7am. there are regular benefits and a 403b plan. st. Clare's isn't a teaching hospital but st. Mary's is. They said they'll pass all my info to the hiring manager and I should hear back by next weekend.
Does anybody have any experience working as a tech at any one of these hospitals or know anyone that does? I don't know ANYTHING about either ER=[

I used to work for St. Marys as a tech. But I worked on the floor, occasionally I would get pulled down to the ER which I hated by the way. The Techs there do EKG and Blood Draws. I felt so out of place bc I didnt know how to do that stuff because I didnt have to learn on it on the floor. Just a heads up.

I don't know anything about working at either of these, but I had a phone interview a couple month's ago. It was for St. Mary's or St. Joseph West ER tech. I thought the phone interview went well and the woman who interviewed me said I would here something either way. I never heard anything back from anyone. I even sent a couple of emails to the interviewer and was ignored. Good luck! Let us know if you get the job.
I didn't get the job
Sorry to hear that. What happened?
The in-person interview went really well apparently but I was turned down due to having no experience:(
Thats stupid. How are you supposed to get experience if no one is willing to give it?! Also, didnt they know that when you applied?
Yeah I know. And yeah when i interviewed with the ER manager she knew I didn't have any experience except my clinincals for my EMT license. I'm guessing it was just a courtesy interview....

Sorry to learn that you didn't get the position. Keep your head up. If you have no experience as a Tech, it might be better for you to get your first experience on a medical floor or somewhere other than an ER. Those kinds of settings are a little more routine/controlled and would be a better learning environment for you. I would contact SSM again and see if there are opportunities elsewhere.
I can tell you that at St. Mary's, the ED is experiencing some changes throughout down there and it would be difficult to put someone with little experience into that kind of situation.
All the best,
