Hello all, I'm creating a new thread now that the application deadline for spring 2015 has past. I was able to complete my application and have it turned in and I beleieve my advancement score is around 1.80. I wanted to create this thread so that we could all communicate with one another as we await a response from ASU. I was told that the first communication we will get is just a confirmation email stating that the application has been recieved. I have yet to recieve said email but its only the 4th so I think that is to be expected. Has anyone else recieved this email yet? Also, does anyone else know if TCPN applicants are competing against Post bac applicants for the same spots? Or do each have there own amount of spots?
Hey MissCassie:
I am also pursuing a B.S. in Genetics, Cell & Developmental Biology at ASU. Actually, my original plan was to get a B.S. in Nursing and have already completed the program's pre-requisites since last year. So what made you pursue nursing? Do you think I should go back to nursing? I am scared that I won't be able to find a job after getting a degree in genetics.
I graduated last year and found it pretty much impossible to find a job related to biology/research/anything actually related to the degree. Job security is nonexistent, especially for those who don't have seniority. I know a girl who has her masters and still lives with her parents and can't find a job. So I said the hell with it, I'm doing nursing because it's an applied science, job security, flexibility, and there's so many different pathways you can pursue. So to get a taste of what it's going to be like I became a CNA at PIMA and loved it!!!!! I actually got a job offer this week at a health center in Chandler!! :)
I don't regret getting my degree because in the end it will help, I just wish someone told me that the light at the end of the tunnel was just an illusion.
MissCassie: Another Biological Sciences graduate told me the same thing -- it is very hard to find a job because most positions require a medical technology certificate or plenty of research lab experience.
Congrats on the job offer! Is getting a CNA job as hard as people make it seem? How do you become a CNA?
I got my cna from Pima after their 5 week course (four lecture, one week clinical). Pima is awesome because they literally need you to get a job to keep their accreditation, so there's a woman who's only job is to send you companies and set up interviews for you!! Also when you take your license tests for both skills and online exam, it's all at Pima, using the same equipment you practiced on!
