SpragueLite Stethoscope

Hello!

Hey, how is everyone doing?

Well, I'm a first year nursing student and I just purchased a SpragueLite Stetho by Prestige MEdical for $26.99 CDN, it came with an accessory pouch (xtra eartips, xtra diaphrams & bells for pediatric and adults) I was wondering if anyone had any input on this stethoscope....I compared it with a Littmann Lightweight for $65 and they pretty much sounded the same! I was getting a bit worried b/c Littmanns are supposedly the really good quality stethos and this deal sounded too good to be true....

Also, the eartips I think are too tight....it starts to hurt after I've worn the stetho for a few minutes, I've tried changing the eartips and found that the softest ones work best, but still...Please, if anyone has any input on this stetho it'd help a great deal, thanks in advance!

Quite a few in my clinicals group are using Prestige steths and seem to be doing fine. I bought a Littman Master Classic II because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to hear with a less expensive one. Then our clinical instructor told us to just get a cheaper one now and spend money on one when we graduated and see how we will use it. (Like if you are going into CCU you might want a Cardiology steth...)

If you can hear with it, I'd say save the money!

I also have a steth from Prestige ($18.50) with the same accessories. I used it all through my EMT classes and have no problems taking BP's with it. I probably will end up buying a Classic II as well just because for the money, they are really good quality. One thing I have learned is make sure to put your name on them!! They like to grow legs and walk away. Something you definitely don't want happening to a $175.00 Cardiology steth!!!

what should i do for the discomfort? I've heard to twist the eartubes so that the bends point towards my nose

yes, you definatly want the eartubs pointing towards your nose :) Try bending the metal part inwards and then outwards so that it won't feel like it's pushing into your brain. I had the same problem with my stethoscope at first until I did that.
