Hello!
I am writing to ask if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to expedite my goal of living and working in Sydney, Australia. I have completed all the necessary steps, sans sponsership. I had originally signed with a couple of agencies ( based in NSW ), but both proved to be less than helpful. I, then, took the initiative to contact the H.R. Dept, Nursing Recruit. Dept., and Nursing Dir. of various hospitals on my own. I have also applied on each of their job websites. As a result, I have had little feedback. My specialty is in cardiac/thoracic, though I have cross-experience in many other areas, making me versatile. I'm also seeking permanent/full-time placement. I question a job shortage, as there are many job postings, and many more successful posts here, of nurses from overseas acquiring positions. Did they already have connections with someone working there? I seem to get a universal response of a dept. expressing interest in interviewing me, after reading my qualifications, but am still waiting for them to solidify a time. I am in constant contact with them, but the response is slow. I don't know all the units at each facility so is hard to contact the NUM directly. I'm not sure if this would even be appropriate, as they may prefer applicants go through the recruitment dept's first. I am open to working at any of the private or public hospitals in Sydney, but have a liking to The Prince of Wales.
I feeling a bit of a crunch as well, as my application was accepted by The Nurses and Midwifes Board of NSW a few months back, so I have a short time left to establish a position before I would have to start the entire process over. ( A person has 1-year from the date of acceptance to activate their license ) I am not eligible for the holiday visa, and there is not enough time to set up a working visa on my own.
It has been a dream of mine to relocate to the beautiful land of OZ, and I would love and appreciate any suggestions or advice!

I would suggest talking to the international recruitment consultant or liasion officer at the hospital. check the hospitals website for "nurses from overseas" in the recruitment section or the Nursing section. thats how I got my 457 and my job in Melbourne. It only took 4 weeks in total and that was including thr 2 weeks I was bush on a trip with no contact with the modern world! POW is a nice hospital I have to agree with you. Good luck!
Thank you so much Karenmaire, for your feedback! I will keep following-up with the international recruitment dept's and the hospital websites. Being assiduous is the motto! It's encouraging to read that it took you only 4 weeks. Wow! Two weeks in the bush! What an amazingly ultimate adventure! It's on the top of my to-do list once I settle there, as well! Thanks again!
