Hola! I am really wanting to continue learning and working toward my goal of becoming a RN. I have been applying for four semesters and have filled my time by taking Medical Terminology as well as C.N.A. and E.M.T. training. All of these classes have been of great interest to me and they have kept me feeling positive and fulfilled. What else can I study ahead of time? :specs: Is there anything that I could read, practice, or learn about that would be of help to me once I'm in a program? I would love to get my hands on a first semester RN book that a student is finished with, but I was told that this could actually hinder me since the information changes so often. Does anyone have any advice on what is good to learn in advance that is a constant in nursing school? Thanks for your input! :p

I guess if I had to do start all over again, and knew I had some time to study beforehand, I think I would really focus in on an A&P book. I know that it isn't exactly nursing, but as I go through the program, I wish I had a stronger A&P knowledge. I hope this helps a little. I have just found that as we are learning our skills and learning about meds in Pharm., I find myself having to go back to my A&P book, to really understand the physiology behind all this stuff. When you understand the building blocks, it all comes together quicker.

I would suggest having a stronger background on A and P; emphasize on cardiac and respiratory - those things will help. Med Surg theory is all about pathophysiology, when you understand how the body works, you'd understand why these meds are given, why these symptoms are seen, and really for me its like an episode of ER or something. xD

Review psychology - know the theories. Especially Know Maslow's theory, that can guide you to good decision-making. We use a lot of Erikson's as well with nursing school.

Other than that, you're on a right track, ahead of the field, med terminology is a plus, I wish you do great on nursing school!
