Hello! First time posting, I'm glad I found this forum :)
I applied to NIU for fall of 2012 and I received a letter telling me that I am on the waitlist for Spring 2013. Does anyone have experience with being on a waitlist at NIU? If I don't get in would I have to reapply? When would I hear if I got in? I am kind of freaking out here. I'm considering calling or emailing but they are still accepting confirmation forms to be on the waiting list til May 11th so perhaps my rank can change by that day. (if they choose to disclose that info)
I am also applying to Aurora University (I am kicking myself for not completing my application last fall). It is much closer and more convenient, though it is more expensive. But they require that I take an intro to chem class;they won't accept the general chem class I took at my CC (higher level though, pretty nonsensical). And I'd have to take pathophysiology before being accepted. And I'd have to take the TEAS-V. I'm applying to get in spring 2013 for prereq's and possibly start their program fall 2013 in case it doesn't work out at NIU.
Good luck to all those on waiting lists, and let's try to not freak out...too much

Hey there! I applied to NIU and I have gotten into my other schools but I really want NIU! SO BAD! When did you hear back from them, and if you do not mind me asking what was your GPA/Accuplacer? I am really nervous and just want to get in! I have a3.8 GPA as of now and I got a 110 on the accuplacer...
Hello Meg1992! I applied for the fall of 2012. Those with the best application qualifications who are admitted get to start in the fall, and everyone else starts in the spring (which I did not know). Those who are NIU students are considered first and find out first. Letters for transfers do not go out til late april (I got my letter April 18 of last year) and it makes the wait really grueling. I was waitlisted for Spring of 2013. I sent in my desire to stay on the waitlist and you are never informed of your place. I moped about being waitlisted and then applied to Aurora University. I contacted NIU after months of not hearing anything and was told I was #3 on the waitlist. I was also told to re-apply (which means starting a new application to be admitted to NIU all over again). I did that but never heard from them, and I could not try again for fall 2013 as my core science classes time requirment would be expiring for NIU. I really wanted to got to NIU for the cost. But it is very competitive. The average gpa to be admitted is 3.4/3.5ish, and that may even be on the low end. It also changes year to year. My gpa was 3.1 according to NIU and I scored high on the accuplacer but I do not remember my score. Over 1,000 people applied and only 140 transfers are admitted for both semesters. I found out last monday that I've been accepted to AU's program and I'm so happy that a full year later I finally get to start nursing school.
I think you should be able to get in with your stats. Best of luck to you!
On another note, make sure you meet with someone face to face or speak to someone from the school you intend to attend. Also, visit the school. My presumptions of the class requirements for AU were based on what I was told at Waubonsee cc which was somewhat incorrect. I didn't have to take a chem class, though I had to take upper level classes other than the nursing classes which I did not know. And patho is not required before you are accepted. It can be a pre-req OR a co-req.
off topic but hopefully helpful

Hello CA_BSNHopeful! Just curious if you get admitted at NIU? You said you have a gpa of 3.1- is this the pre req GPA or overall GPA. And those admitted with 3.4/3.5ish is this overall or pre req GPA?
