Hi, I'm from the UK but I oversee a forum for hip and knee replacement people, most of whom - surprise, surprise - are from the US. Today a member said she was told she'd had a "spinal wash" after a TKR under a spinal block. I'venever heard of this before and was hoping someone could fill me in ...
Nobody able to help?

Hi,
This is the closest thing I could find relating to a "Spinal Wash":
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=2052491
Hope this was of some assitance.
thanks,
Matthew
Why thank you so much. I really do appreciate your effort - except the article was published in 1947 Bit old - even for me!
The instance to which I was referring happened after a TKR only a couple of weeks ago! In the US actually.

Perhaps contact one of the US nurses on your other site? Have never heard of a spinal washing and wonder if the poster meant "spinal block" in order to give extended pain control?
I admit that I'm stumped.
I've had some pts. come back post-op with epidurals in place for pain control. But I've never heard of "spinal wash".
Perhaps you could ask an anesthesiologist? Or the surgeon involved in the case?
Sorry I don't have any answers for you
Not really, I just run the forum and she came on and asked me what it was. Like you, I was stumped! But I'm from the UK and so wondered if it was a US speciality!
Personally I tend to think she misheard or was told this by someone who didn't know what they were talking about!!
Anyway, thank you for you efforts. Much appreciated.
